![]() ![]() ![]() Its up to you to Hustle, charm and intimidate your way to the top of the pile and do whatever it takes to stay there. The sad part of it all is, that every aspect of the game lacks depth and with only little more effort, the devs could have made this a super-heavy-weight game, worth every penny of it's initial 75$ price tag. Summary: Empire of sin, the strategy game from romero games and Paradox interactive, puts you at the heart of the ruthless criminal underworld of 1920S prohibition-era Chicago. Having said all this, it was still quite a bit of fun and for 11$ I don't mind it being a light-weight game, that I would maybe play every once in a while. I then loaded back, got strong enough for such wars, but then I ended up conquering the map instead of accepting the mission again. In my first attempt I did a couple of missions, which got me into a war with some factions far earlier than I could handle. The missions tell some sort of story, but that story isn't interesting enough, so I hardly explored it at all. Long range fighters snipe from long range, doctors can heal others or themselves, demolitionists can perform AoE attacks, but they need line of sight, the area and the damage is so limited, that it often is either impossible to hit enough targets to make that attack worthwhile, it's cooldown is also very long, so they are another class that mainly does short range combat. There are a couple of classes of characters best described with their combat roles: Close range fighters move in close and deal a lot of damage - that's it. The problem is, that most special actions are almost never useful, so you end up moving somewhere and perform a standard attack with (almost) every character on (almost) every turn. That's all there is about the economy.Ĭombat is basically Dungeons and Dragons style turn based combat, with 2 actions per character and turn. Speakeasies attract the least, but serve the most and brothels attract the most, serve the least. Each racket attracts a number customers into the district and each serves a number of customers. There are 3 types of rackets consuming it: speakeasies, casinos and brothels. All of these - except graphics - are implemented in such a shallow way, it physically hurts.Įconomy knows one resource in total - alcohol. The core concepts are all there: economy, management, story-telling, combat and some gorgeous graphics. This game could have been an absolute legend of a game. With that said, let's get into the content. That was a deciding factor for me to give it a thumbs-up.
